At 12:21 AM Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched for a report of smoke coming from a house located at 530 S. 10th in Burlington, Iowa. Upon their arrival, heavy smoke and flames can be seen coming from a second-story window.
A box alarm was struck resulting in calling in 10 off-duty Burlington Firefighters. West Burlington Fire Department, Burlington Police Department, and Alliant Energy and Gas assisted at the scene. The American Red Cross provided lodging assistance to the affected occupants.
The house is owner/occupied by Joseph Schrock who was home at the time of the incident. Mr. Schrock and two additional roommates were able to escape the fire. The home had no working smoke detectors at the time of the incident.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
The fire is ruled undetermined and appears to be electrical in nature.
