At 3:10 AM Friday May 5, 2023 the Burlington and West Burlington Fire Departments responded to a reported house fire at 1101 S. Central Avenue in Burlington. Burlington Police officers arrived first and reported flames showing from a second-floor window. A box alarm was struck calling in off duty Burlington firefighters, as well as bringing Danville and Mediapolis firefighters closer to Burlington. Firefighters arrived at 3:15 AM and located a room and contents fire in a second-floor bedroom. The fire was brought under control by 3:31 AM.
The vacant two-story house is owned by Billy Graham of Burlington. The fire damage is contained to the second floor and attic space with smoke and water damage throughout. Damage estimates are still being assessed, but the house is likely a total loss. The house is not insured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments.
Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Burlington Police and Alliant Energy. There were no injuries. Firefighters cleared the scene at 6:00 AM.
