[ARCHIVED] Wastewater Treatment Facility scheduled inspection

The Burlington, Iowa Wastewater Treatment Facility, 101
South Street,  has planned to stop all wastewater flow to the wastewaterplant Thursday morning, 12/10, so city personnel can inspect the plant’s
wastewater influent well and the thirty six (36)  inch influent line forwear and identify any repairs or replacement needed.  In order to perform
the investigation most of the city’s raw, untreated wastewater, for theduration of the investigation process, will be bypassed, untreated,  to
the Mississippi River.   The majority of the bypassing will takeplace near the Market Street Lift Station, upstream side near the south boat
ramps.  A temporary sign indicating health warning due to the presence ofthe untreated sewage will be placed at the ramps in association with this
scheduled bypass to allow the inspection and will be removed sometime afterbypassing has ceased. The only other location at which bypassing will be
occurring is from the Bonn’s Hollow Box combined sewer located east of MainStreet, near the wastewater plant.  Bypass, there, will enter the river
upstream of the wastewater plant’s on- site effluent discharge structure. Thewell and pipe inspection is expected to be completed the same day.
