Trick or Treat night is traditionally held on Halloween night from 5p - 7p. This year door to door Trick or Treat will continue on with that tradition on Saturday, October 31st from 5p - 7p. There is no requirement to participate in passing out treats or walking door to door with your family. We urge citizens to make the best decision for their individual families.
The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has published guidelines and tips for a safer Halloween experience with some good practices while out. Learn more about these guidelines. With cases in Des Moines County rising we would encourage all citizens to take the best precautions to protect the health of yourself and family.
Further, these guidelines do indicate that anyone that has COVID-19 or may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 SHOULD NOT participate in in-person Halloween activities. This includes passing out candy and going door to door even with a mask on. Wearing a mask if you have not been exposed to the virus and plan to participate is still recommended by the CDC as well as proper hand-washing.
There are modifications that can be made if you are wanting to participate but mitigate the risk:
- Be creative! Find fun ways to pass candy to children from your porch or from 6' away
- Avoid homeade treats from strangers
- Stay local
- Limit the number of houses you visit
- Practice good hand hygiene while out
Please visit the CDC website or IDPH Website for more information about safe practices.
