At 10:47 PM Sunday April 19, 2020 the Burlington Fire Department responded to what was believe to be a house fire in the 500 block of S. Leebrick Street in Burlington. A police officer in the area arrived within a minute of the call and reported that there were flames coming from 2 garages. Firefighters arrived within 3 minutes to find 2 detached garages engulfed in flames with the fire spreading to a third garage and the back of a house. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control by 11:20 PM.
The fire destroyed the garage and also damaged the siding of the house at 531 S. Leebrick owned by Danielle Doss. The fire also destroyed the detached garage at 527 S. Leebrick owned by Kory and Rebecca Fillmore. The garage located at 532 S. Adams Street, owned by House & Home Properties, sustained heat damage to the exterior. Damage estimates are still being assessed.
The cause of the fire is suspicious and is being investigated by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments.
13 on-duty Burlington firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by 8 West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid. Burlington Police Department, Superior Ambulance, and Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene until 1:25 AM. There were no injuries.
