National Night Out

The Burlington Police Department, in conjunction with the Des Moines County Attorney’s office, is proud to announce our reboot  of “National Night Out” on August 3, 2021.  As you are likely aware, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. National Night Out is a national program to foster community relationships between our first responders and the citizens we serve.  Rather than just being a law enforcement endeavor, we hope to have the participation from all of our local first responder agencies, including law enforcement and fire and emergency personnel.

Our goal at this time, is to plan a series of family friendly activities on the Riverfront in the early evening hours. Some of the attractions will include information booths/tables from the various agencies within the Des Moines County area, demonstrations from law enforcement and fire personnel, local food truck vendors, and a variety of children’s activities, culminating with an emergency vehicle parade throughout the greater Burlington area from all of our local agencies.

We are seeking the assistance of anyone who is willing to assist in the planning of the events, as well as participation in the event itself. If you are interested in planning or even co-sponsoring the events, please contact Major Adam Schaefer from the Burlington Police Department at 319-753-8354
