Fire
The Burlington Fire Department provides Emergency Services to the city and surrounding rural areas. Our fire response territory includes the City of Burlington and the adjacent Quad Townships of Concordia, Flint River, Tama, and Union. The EMS response area served includes our city, the Quad Townships, Gulfport IL and the southern half of Des Moines County. We operate from two stations.
Our responsibilities and services include:
- Fire Prevention & Education
- Fire Response and Suppression
- Paramedic staffed ALS (advanced life support) ambulances
- Hazardous Materials Team (Technician level, serving all Des Moines County)
- Vehicle Rescue & Extrication
- Confined Space Rescue
- River Rescue/Cold Water Rescue
- Fire Code Inspections
- Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF)
Smoke Detector Home Installation Program
The Fire Department operates a Smoke Detector Home Installation program. This is a free service that supplies both the detectors and installation by firefighters. We want all homes and people protected with these life saving devices. Simply call the fire station and we can arrange a convenient time to ensure your home is protected.
Fire Prevention Education
The Fire Department regularly hosts and participates in fire safety education programs in the schools, library and community. If your organization would like a speaker or fire safety presentation, please contact the fire station. We provide fire extinguisher training to business and industry as well. We also host a Fire Explorer Post for young citizens.
Public CPR Classes
The Fire Department offers regular CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) classes for the public, day-care providers and health care providers sanctioned through American Heart Association.
CPR Classes are offered on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 0900-1200
Cost is $50 per person

Fire Museum and Station Tours
The Central Fire Station accommodates a small and relevant historical fire museum. Both fire stations are also available to tour. We would be happy to host your school group, club or civic organization.
