Citizens Police Academy

The Burlington Police Department will be hosting its 17th Citizens Police Academy beginning February 18th, 2020. The Citizens Police Academy is directed towards citizens that live and work in the Burlington area who want to gain an understanding of how the department accomplishes its mission on a daily basis by providing classroom and field instruction in various areas of law enforcement.

The Citizens Police Academy is an informative learning process regarding the various areas of the daily responsibility facing each of our officers. Participants of the Citizens Police Academy will be taught by members of the Burlington Police Department in subjects such as Taser Utilization, Use of Force, Burglary Investigation, Interview and Interrogation, Crime Scene Processing, Traffic Stops, Tactical Response, K-9 and Narcotics Investigation. Each member will also receive weapon instruction and participate in a Department ride along.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age and willing to attend all 8 weekly sessions. The weekly sessions are held on Tuesdays from 6:30pm-9:00pm and one Saturday morning. A criminal history investigation for each applicant will be conducted prior to acceptance in the Citizens Police Academy. Advanced registration is required. Participation is free to the public and is limited to fifteen people.
